I have a bed now. Woopdewoop.

I got my mattress delivered yesterday, and I am going to Ikea today to get a bedframe! My roomate has a pick-up truck which makes it superdeduper easy to go to Ikea and pick it Ramberg bed.

AT IKEA
Even though I called ahead to ensure they had the Ramberg bed, they were sadly out. The Ikea employees gave me the number to call to talk to a human (other than lazy Kenny, according to them) who will actually in the Philly store and will look up how many they have (minus Kenny who is LAZY).

Lesson learned.

Grey's: It better be good.

I have been at school for a week now. I have been keeping busy. Like I had hoped. But more importantly I watched Grey's Anatomy last night with friends from ABY (Achayot B'Yichud, Drexel's Jewish Women's Organization). I liked it.

Freshman year I LOVED it.

I haven't grown out of it, I just have changed and the show has as well.

I am not friends with all the some people, I am not living in a dorm, and I am a year older. I am loving life and living life, not knowing what I will like next year.

But I am excited for THIS year.

I’ve got soul but I’m not a soldier.

I cannot wait to be back at Drexel.
I know that when I get back to school a have a schedule waiting for me, and hoping to keep me busy all every day.

I thrive on being scheduled. I never thought so, until coming to school as a freshman. You can get bored having so much freedom, and dorm rooms are only so big. I began to look to fill my schedule with walks into the city or events posted around campus. Then I began finding rituals, or weekly things to do. I became an active member in the Ambassador program giving two afternoon tours a week, and began thinking about doing layout for The Triangle, our independent student newspaper.

By the end of freshman year, I was in both. Tours Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, and sports layout Thursday nights. I liked knowing what I had to do, other than homework.

Being at home this week, I have some things to do: pack, clean up my rooms, double check on moving in information, etc.

But none of it seemed to be affected anyone other than myself. I realized I have more of a drive to do it all when I know I am making a difference.

So in one week, about, I will have things to do all the time. Not in a overwhelming way, but in I am have had vacation and am ready to work now.
Adios.

Philly is for Sudoku lovers.

Philadelphia is cool. So we are hosting the first U.S. Sudoku championship October 19 through 21 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in downtown Philadelphia.

I have to admit that when the puzzles get rough I write small number possibilities on the corners of squares. There will be none of that I assume at the competition? Who has the rulebook for Sudoku? The Sudoku Champioinship Board of Ethics or some commitee must.

Here is a list of frequently asked questions about the championships, that is the best I can find from the official competition.

NOTE: There is a special Championship just for us...Competition College Students! Who's in?

For the $12 (subscribers), $15 (non-subscribers, let me know before registration closes.

Labor day.

Happy Labor Day.

Although the history or Labor day is not in the physical labor we think. A brief history borrowed from Wikipedia:

"Labor Day is a United States federal holiday that takes place on the first Monday in September. The holiday began in 1882, originating from a desire by the Central Labor Union to create a day off for the "working man". It is still celebrated mainly as a day of rest and marks the symbolic end of summer for many. Labor Day became a federal holiday by Act of Congress in 1894.[1]"

I recently found this video of students unique co-op opportunities and the labor they did during their co-op that led to job offers and great for their futures etc.

The RAINBOOTS.

I totally forgot to explain my rainboot obession, which ends up relating to Drex's admissions office, so read my story:

I was shopping last year on Chestnut street at all the cheapy yet cute stores. I have needed rainboots all year and found an adorable pair
at one of the shoestores by Buffalo Exchange. They were Sugar rainboots in yellow patent leather for $60... way to much for plastic shoes.

So I passed them by and figured I would come back when they were on sale. I left in June without rainboots and realized I NEED that pair.

After hours of intensive google-ing and research I came up blank for the boots. I called the shoestore next to Buffalo Exchange, and the said they did not ever sell these NECCESARY boots. I found the corporate office of Sugar shoes, and left a message for the Wholesale person for the state of Pennsylvania.

My message began, "Hello, This is Tamar. I am a student at Drexel University in Philadelphia. I am calling as an Ambassador, which are the tour guides and representative of the Admissions Office. I was wondering if there was any way to make the rainboot from last season's my official tour shoe, as tours in the rain walking backwards require a rainboot. Anyways, I would love to talk to you more, so when you return to the office please call me on my cell phone at..."

Nuts I know. So I just returned from a small hippie town an hour away from Cincinnati, and of course saw the boots in a small boutique on sale, but they did not have my size. I jotted down the name and random array of numbers on the box. With this new information, I returned to my first weapon of choice: Google. I found two websites with the boots but no YELLOW, one of Drexel's colors and much cuter than the black or bronze. I emailed the two customer services of the sites and recieved a response of hwne they get new styles the next day.

SO hopefully by the time I return I will have these troubling boots. And can walk backwards on my campus tours, through puddles, in my rainboots. Tours in the rain are said to be better as you see the campus when the sun is not shining and get the feel of the school.

In lust with college campuses (and rainboots).

I have beek keeping bust even though I seem to be doing nothing. I am working for my dad creating the publicity book for this past year and do that a few days this past week. I helped a friend pack up her apartment at UC (University of Cincinnati). They have a beautiful new apartment building set above the first floor of restaurants and banks etc. I think of it as Drexel in five years. I remember growing up in Cincinnati that they always had these big plans and now I actually see them in place and my friends enjoying the benefits of the nice suite-like apartments with views of all the sports complexes positioned in central campus for them. It is intersting to be on someone elses campus. I remember on college tours they all kind of felt foreign, but walking around UC I got the small feeling of being back at school. Wherever I walked, I was part of the socially accepted checking out of whoever was a "college kid."

I liked it but felt a bit wrong about it. These kids were not who I was going to see in class, or at the machine next to me in the DAC, or even at parties. The faces I was noticing were going to just be faces. They were not going to become some real part of my life.

Back to the idea of Drexel in five years, I read the Daily Digest email (sent to your Drexel email everyday), the Triangle (Our student run newspaper), and just hear the BIG news Papadakis has for Drex. The Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts and Design's (awCoMad school) new building, more retail, new dorms are all in the making.

I get a bit jealous of the students who will be able to be a part of the great new buildings, but I remember that I was lucky to be a part of the first group to live in Race Street Residence.

When I graduate the construction I had to walk through will be towards the end of the processes (or so they say) and I will be off to return and sound just like my parents in saying, "When I went to school here... there was" x y and z.

I know these next few weeks will fly by, and hopefully I will get to visit my friends who are at other college campuses what they are bragging about, but I cannot wait to come back to DRexel. That way when I walk down the street, I will be "checking out" faces that look a bit more familiar... ahhhemmm facebook.... and will be a part of my next three years.

Adios for now. Sorry for always taking the inspirational speaker role but it is just to fun to pass up and it gets be even more pumped to come back when I am bored at home. Ha.
